It’s our number one priority to look after the safety and security of everyone at Teesside International Airport: our passengers, visitors and staff. Our security area has recently undergone a redevelopment to make getting through smoother and easier than ever. The introduction of state-of-the-art body and bag scanners means you don’t need to remove laptops and liquids from your bags and pass them through separately.
We have three simple steps for you to follow to enable you to fly through security.

Liquids
There are restrictions on liquids, gels, pastes and creams which can be taken through security, either in hand luggage or in your pockets. These include things like bottled drinks (empty bottles are permitted), suntan lotions, fragrances, cosmetics and toiletries. The restrictions apply to everyone departing from airports in the EU, no matter where they’re flying to.
Liquids must be in a container marked 100ml or less. Any liquids in a container marked larger than 100ml (whether full or not) will not be allowed through security.
All containers must be carried in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag which holds no more than one litre and measures 20cm by 20cm with no depth.
Each passenger is only allowed to take one sealed liquid bag through security.
Liquids are any gel, cream, paste, fluid or treated solid.
Baby food and milk
If you’re travelling with infants, please carry only what’s needed for your journey. Wet wipes and powdered baby food aren’t included in the restrictions on liquids. You may be asked to taste up to 50% of any baby milk or baby food in liquid, gel or paste form. Your hand luggage can contain:
- Breast milk, formula milk, cow’s milk
- Sterilised water (must be in a baby bottle)
- Soya milk for babies
- Baby food
- Food or powders
These should be packed into hold baggage where possible as items like these can obstruct images on X-ray machines or be mistaken for suspicious items, with further checks then required as a result.
Medicines
We know that you might sometimes need to take medicine through security. Here’s what you need to know:
- Medicines cannot exceed the 100ml maximum liquid content, and must be kept in a transparent, re-sealable bag.
- There is no limit for powder or pills.
- If you need to carry more than 100ml of liquid medicines in your hand luggage, you should obtain approval from your airline and bring a valid prescription in your name.
- Always carry your prescription with you, or a statement from a medical professional.
Sharp items and tools
These cannot be carried in hand luggage at all.
